About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of satellite structures, mechanisms, and thermal systems. The role involves end-to-end ownership of spacecraft mechanical subsystems, from concept design and analysis through testing, integration, launch, and mission support.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop spacecraft structures, enclosures, mechanisms, and thermal hardware.
- Create 3D CAD models using CATIA, Siemens NX, or SolidWorks.
- Perform structural and thermal analysis using ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar CAE tools.
- Define material selection, mechanical architecture, mass budgets, and thermal margins.
- Ensure compliance with ECSS, NASA, and ISRO standards.
- Support electronics packaging, thermal management, and subsystem integration.
- Lead environmental testing including vibration, shock, acoustic, and thermal vacuum tests.
- Collaborate with systems, avionics, RF, and AOCS teams for spacecraft development.
- Manage vendors, manufacturing, assembly, integration, and qualification activities.
- Prepare technical documentation and participate in design reviews (PDR/CDR).
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.
Required Skills
- Strong expertise in satellite mechanical design, structural analysis, and thermal engineering.
- Hands-on experience with CATIA, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, ANSYS, and Abaqus.
- Knowledge of GD&T, DFM/DFA, FEA, thermal control systems, composites, and lightweight materials.
- Experience with spacecraft qualification, environmental testing, and failure analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Certifications
- CATIA / Siemens NX Certification
- ANSYS or Abaqus Training
- GD&T Certification (ASME Y14.5)
- Reliability Engineering, FMEA/FMECA, or Aerospace Standards Training
